Award Winners with Romi Social Housing / Category Future Healthy Built Environment Project / Highly Commended/ Design & Health International Academy Awards 2025 / Singapore

We’re really happy to share that our project Romi Social Housing has been awarded at the International Academy Awards 2025 in the category Future Healthy Built Environment Project, during the World Congress on Design and Health 2025! 

This award celebrates architectural projects that promote health and wellbeing, recognizing those that integrate a salutogenic vision for the built environment, aiming to enhance people’s quality of life and address future social and environmental challenges.

Romi Social Housing is a residential project conceived to foster the wellbeing and health of its future inhabitants, through salutogenic, human-centered, and neuroscience-informed design strategies that encourage healthy habits, connection with nature, and a sense of community.

The World Congress on Design and Health (WCDH) was an inspiring event that gathered architects, researchers, and professionals from around the world, all sharing the same purpose: creating environments that support life, health, and human connection through design.

World Congress on Design & Health 2025 in Singapore

Happy and grateful to have been part of the World Congress on Design & Health 2025, an incredible and enriching experience that brought together inspiring speakers, visionary projects, and meaningful discussions about design and wellbeing.

We presented our research on the impact of architectural design on chronic stress levels, exploring how the spaces we create can truly influence health, both physiologically and emotionally.

We also had the great honor of receiving two International Academy Awards:
-One for our research project
-And another for our architectural project, Romi Social Housing

A heartfelt thank you to Alan Dilani and the International Academy for Design and Health for organizing such an extraordinary congress, a meaningful global platform for learning, inspiration, and connection.

It was also a true honor to meet and talk with Dato' Dr. Ken Yeang , whose visionary work in ecological architecture I deeply admire. Having the honor of exchanging ideas with him was truly inspiring !!

Loved meeting so many amazing and talented people from around the world, and reconnecting with wonderful colleagues and friends. Winners International Research Project / International Academy Awards 2025 Singapore

Really happy and deeply honored to be winners of the International Academy Awards 2025 in the International Research Project category, at the World Congress on Design & Health 2025.

This award celebrates innovative research that explores how design can positively impact health and wellbeing.

In our research project, “The Impact of Architectural Design on Chronic Stress Levels”, we explored how the spaces we design influence stress, both qualitatively and quantitatively, through photo-elicitation interviews, surveys, and physiological measurements of stress levels using a Virtual Reality TSST protocol.

The World Congress on Design & Health (WCDH) brought together leading researchers, architects, and visionaries from all over the world to exchange ideas on how the built environment can promote health and wellbeing, an inspiring and unforgettable experience filled with knowledge, creativity, and purpose.

Endless thanks to Alan Dilani , whose vision, passion, and tireless dedication continue to inspire and unite a global community around the idea that design can truly promote health.
And to his wonderful team, for creating such an extraordinary congress, full of meaningful encounters and innovative talks.

Finally, a very special thanks to Sabrina Lorusso, my co-author, with whom I’ve shared this journey, full of challenges, learning, and a shared purpose: to create spaces that truly promote Health.

Master in Neuroscience Applied to Architectural Design

I completed the Master in Neuroscience Applied to Architectural Design exactly seven months ago, and I feel deeply grateful and privileged for the incredible experience and knowledge it has brought me. Just a few days ago, I officially received my diploma, a proud milestone that marks this transformative journey. A huge thank you to Davide Ruzzon for creating and leading such an amazing and inspiring program !!

For the past 17 years, I’ve been running my architecture studio, Guevara Ottonello Architects, always driven by the intention of creating spaces that enhance people’s well-being. This Master’s program has profoundly enriched that mission, empowering me to approach design through a research-based lens.

Today, I’m deeply fascinated by the world of research, and especially grateful for the synergy I now have the chance to explore: integrating scientific research both during the design process and through post-occupancy evaluations of real projects.
This connection between practice and research is something I want to continue developing to its fullest potential.

I am truly grateful to Davide Ruzzon @daruzzon_ for bringing this outstanding program to life, for its enriching content, and for assembling such an amazing team of fantastic professors!!.
To my tutor Alessandra Micalizzi @alemika thank you for your thoughtful guidance.

Biennale di Venezia

I was truly honored to be invited to take part in a deeply inspiring conversation with Thomas Heatherwick @officialheatherwickstudio and @daruzzon_ on “How to Make the Outside of Buildings Radically More Human,” at La Biennale di Venezia @labiennale

I also had the pleasure of presenting my Master’s thesis alongside my dear friend @sabrina_lorusso_ “The Impact of Affordances and Atmospheres of Residential Architectural Design on Physiological and Psychological Stress and on the Maintenance of an Allostatic Balance,” as part of the Biennale Sessions!

Our study explores how residential design can influence chronic stress and help support allostatic balance, through a real case study of a project currently under development in Punta del Este, Uruguay, designed by our studio, Guevara Ottonello Architects.

So grateful to be part of a community that’s rethinking architecture from a more human, research-based perspective!!
